Some People ....

I cannot believe the unbeliveable gall and NERVE of SOME PEOPLE!!!!!
I did my post yesterday to commemorate the anniversary of our 44th President taking office.
I did not expect to EVER recieve the comment that I opened in my inbox.
I will not post such ignorance on here but to call me the "N" word and to post anomously .....
NO!! I am not going to be descreet about it, you called me a nigger! How dare you!!!!!
It is ignorance like that that keeps people like you in sheets!!!
I see that you were not brave enough to post it with your name.
Let's get a few things straight....
I am a proud African-American woman and I am a democrat.
I did not vote for Obama because of the color of his skin. I originally voted for Hillary in the primaries.
But once I listened to him ..I liked what he stands for and he received my vote.
If that were the case then why did I not vote for Colin Powell?
The purpose of the post was to show how proud I was of that day and the strides that we as a country have made to overlook such simplicities as race.
But for some, I see, they are just simple.
I do not disrespect anyone on my blog or anywhere else.
I firmly believe that we are all children of God and that under his love there is no difference.
It is that same love that has compelled me to pray for you because I truly feel pity for you.
It must be tiring to have that much ignorance weighing you down.
For my bloggy sisters who gave words of support, " thank you."

I would like to think that I can find solice in bloggy land...

The world we live in is hard enough. But to be verbally assaulted here is beyond my reason.
There is a saying that, " Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me.."
To a degree this is true. But is it not words that give the command for war? Or restore peace?
Words have a great impact on us...even me.
I am a person, just like you. If I am cut.. I bleed. And if I am slandered ..I am hurt just like you.
So Anonymous.. whoever you are. Remember this:
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

  1. Oh my, please tell me that really did not happen!
I don't care what people's opinions are there isn't any excuse for rudeness!!!
I feel sad that someone would write mean things.
    Your post was wonderful!
It was a memorable day wasn't it?

  2. Maya. No one can tell it like Maya. I'm glad you shared her.

It never ceases to amaze me, the ignorance in this world. Sexism. Racism. Reverse racism. Stupidism. Wrongism.

But, you know. Among all of these isms, Jesus abides. The Holy Spirit whispers. Our God Reigns!

  3. Everyone should pray for that anonomous fool. Come out from hiding and God will receive you and relieve you of your sins. We all sin. But, we all should also repent. Sad soul, we are praying for you....(You, no doubt are reading today!)

  4. You know Maya Angelo is one of my favorites. Not because she is black, but because she is a wonderful, talented person. People that post comments like the one your received are nothing more than igonorant. It hurts me that in the year 2010, people have to be such arrogant idiots. Your blog was absolutely beautiful and I thank you for it!
    Take care, Sue

  5. Oh my gosh! Some people have no boundaries in reaching out to hurt, destroy and silence! Thank goodness that you are NOT one to be silenced! I am so glad that you wrote this post! Cowardice comes blanketed not only in sheets but also in anonymous, poisonous comments.

Girl, I only live 30 minutes from you and I am there if you need me! I was shocked when I moved to this part of the country twelve years ago...shocked to see the amount of racism which still hides in the woods here in East Texas. And I have been disgusted to see racism raise its ugly head all across the country since Obama has been elected. It seems that the crazies have come out of hiding!

Thank you for your words of praise, your words of strength and your words of hope!

  8. I assume it wasn't a regular reader but just some yahoo googling to stir up trouble. Did you see that? I used the words "yahoo" and "googling" back-to-back in the same sentence. :-) But I digress. Sorry it happened. But, as they say, consider the source. Someone without enough backbone to put their name to their words deserves no credence. So don't let them get to you.

  9. Oh my gosh... my earrings just came off once more... what is about you and my ear lobes?

Seriously - ignore "anonymous" and ignore their stupidity and ignorance and lack of backbone and lack of morals and lack of heart, soul and God in their life.

I love you. And I would never hurt you - always surround you with those that adore you. And use that delete button when you need to.

Now, I'm giving you hugs and wondering where my earrings landed.

  10. This is my third try at leaving a comment. I've written two, but they both ended up sounding trite. I read the previous post and girl, I thought it was beautifully written. I smiled the whole time I was reading it. This post does not make me smile...it's makes me feel like crying. There is nothing I can say to excuse this person's ignorance. All I can say is that this is an ongoing battle and I want you for my general. Even though you don't say so, I know this has to hurt deeply. I truly am sorry and wish I had the right words to say to take away the hurt.
    Debbie
P.S. It still didn't come out the way I was saying it in my head, but I hope you know I care and I'd gladly go take off my earrings and open up a can of whupass on 'em...if they weren't such a coward to hide behind anonymous.

  11. I went to You Tube on Monday to listen to Martin Luther King's I have a dream speech and was surprised to read in the description that the comments section had been taken down due to hateful and racist comments. I wrote about it in my blog. I like to think those people are in the minority, but sadly I guess some will always be around.

  12. I'm sorry that happened to you, Misty.
But you've gotta know that anything stupid enough to say such a thing isn't going to have the courage to stand behind it, hence the anonymous comment.

While we might differ in our political views, I completely respect you and yours, and even if I didn't LYLAS, I'd never stoop to such mean-spirited ignorance.

How are you recovering from your surgery? Hope you're feeling better!

  13. Hi Sweet One~
I am so sorry this happened. I agree with David that this person deserves no credence since they had to hide behind Anonymity.

I love the words of Maya Angelou! Just beautiful!

    Love to you,

Too bad for that person that they picked such a strong powerful woman to mess with! I hope you are healing from your surgery and I love the new look of your blog! Take Care, stay strong ~ Theresa

  16. dear girl
i started to post yesterday, but i didn't because i didn't want what i was saying to be misunderstood. i will try today.
i am white, but i have a bi-racial daughter. the idea of anyone trying to hurt or limit her because of her race horrifies me. i understand why you are proud...i truly do.
but...having said that and meaning it from my heart, i MUST say something else. i don't ever vote for someone based upon the color of their skin.
    never.
nor do many of the African Americans i know. but, i AM biased. i am biased in the direction of what matters to the LORD. i could not and would not vote for either hilary clinton or barak obama because no matter what words anyone uses and what someone may "say" they are - the truth and the proof is the pudding - or, as in this case, the voting and the "platform" someone stands on.
i will be completely honest with you here. no one who says they are a Christian and yet supports the killing of unborn babies is telling the truth. i know that may cause some of you to come against me, but i cannot back down. why?? because the Bible makes it very very clear the sanctity of human life - that the LORD JESUS hates the shedding of "innocent" blood - that while we were yet "unformed" in our mother's wombs, HE knew us. they are human beings - the most helpless of human beings and i could never vote for or support anyone who refuses to acknowledge that truth. it is particularly distressing when so many who say they are "Christians" can say that this is not the most crucial of matters.
i mean no offense to you. you said that "church" was another thing that was a big part of your life. i cannot help but wonder at how we can all be the "Body of Christ" and yet somehow not see things His way??? do you know what i mean??
i am so sorry that this person acted in such a way to you - it is apparent that they are NOT true Christians, for how can we bless God who we have not seen and yet curse man, who is made in His image??
when i talked with African Americans that i knew before the election of the President and i asked them why they were not voting for Obama, this is what they told me.
they were Christians FIRST, and African Americans second. that they wanted to please the Lord and support what mattered to HIM.
please understand that it truly is as it is said in the book of James...."i'll show you my faith by what i DO". what we say, means nothing, if we do not back it up with our actions.

God bless you and please know that i mean no offense to you - only to speak the truth from my heart.

  17. Oh, Misty, I'm so sorry this happened to you. I can not for the life of me understand why people leave comments like that on blogs like ours. I've seen it happen every now and again. Most of us in this huge circle of bloggers pretty much blog in the same genre. We're not editorializing world events, necessarily, or facilitating discussions of such. We're sharing our thoughts, feelings, talents, homes.

If we post something that is not of the same mind-set of someone else, why should they lash out? No one is making them read your blog. If they don't agree with your ideals and passions, then click on the next link!

As beautiful a place "our" blog world is most of the time, ignorance still filters through. It's a shame. But you know what . . . move on. I know it's hard reading such horrid words directed right to you, but don't waste any more precious energy on what that terrible person said. They are truly a sad, sad soul.

  18. Thank you for the words of encouragement everyone!! @Debbylynne- I am a Christian first and foremost. If one chooses to have an abortion - that is between them and their God. I do not get involved in all the political such and such with others. But to say that noone who supports the killing of unborn children is telling the truth? Well, I cannot govern everything that one's platforms contains. I try to pick who I think would be the better party. Both parties have issues that I do not agree with. However, what each individual person chooses to do with their freedom is their business. They will have to give in account for their actions as I will mine. Now, for the record..I do not like to discuss issues like this. To everyone else- have a blessed day and thank you.

  19. p.s. the killing of innocent blood- so killing innocent people in war is no better. Like I said earlier, each side has issues that may not go with what I believe.

  20. Sorry that you had such uglyness in your inbox! I hate that there are these types of people! And it goes both ways unfortunately. I am Mexican and I once met a girl who wanted me to give up all my white friends because they don't really care about me. She could care because she was black and also a minority she said. I told her I felt sad for her that she felt that she had to think of people that way. I see everyone the same, it's only the inside of people that are different. We can be better by accepting everyone. If that reader is back I say to you leave if you are not willing to be a friend because we all are friends here, no matter what color we are! Hugs from Conroe, TX!

  21. Only a coward posts garbage like that as "anonymous."
While I don't agree with Obama and a lot of the things that he has done, he is still my President. He is still the man that God has put in charge of our country and because of that, he deserves the utmost respect. It is certainly not a job that just anyone can do.

It is amazing to me the ignorance and hatred that still resides in our world today. However, the bible does tell us, unfortunately, that it will only get worse before He arrives.

I'm sorry you had to be the target of such hatred Misty. Hold your head high and be proud of who you are and what you believe.

  23. Wow. That's creepy and sad and ... well ... makes steam pour from my ears. We have become so divisive these days ... and in such childish ways. And just like with children--words can hurt.

Love love love that Angelou poem. Excellent choice.

Ain't it always the jerks who don't have the guts to sign their name?
